T-Shirt design tips: How to Avoid the 6 common mistakes

Simple t-shirt designing is great when done well. Avoiding common mistakes is essential to achieving greatness. This post outlines the top 6 T-Shirt design tips you should consider when designing your printed piece. Some of them may seem obvious, but some of them could be new to you.

1. Sizing

Most people wear shirts that fit them well. Some people buy bigger sizes because they want to show off their muscles. But if you’re buying clothes online, make sure you know your measurements before you order. These T-Shirt design tips will be helpful while you are choosing a T-Shirt.

The size of a shirt should be decided based on the nature of the design because it is very important amidst choosing a size.

Square and circle designs are usually the most popular ones. This is because they are easy to make and fit well into any design. However, if you want something more unique, try making a triangle or a hexagon instead.

Some people print out their designs on regular paper and hold them up to their shirt to see how it looks. I fully support doing this as well. I also keep making your superhero costume out of household objects while you’re at it.
It would help if you used a reduced-size print for smaller sizes. This will ensure that you get what you ordered, but it won’t cost you more money.
A hoodie with front pockets has a maximum size of 10 inches tall. Some toddler shirts only go up to six inches wide.
Size matters. An oversized shirt should fit well over your body. It would be best if you tried to buy clothes made by companies that care about the environment. You should avoid buying clothes made out of materials that harm the planet.
When in doubt, ask your reps or the art department about the ideal size. We’re always happy to help you make the right decision.

2. Placement

Print placement is sometimes conflated (confused) with location, but it’s the exact measurement of where to place the design within the location.

Your design could be unique, but people might think your plan looks bad if you place it incorrectly.

Belly prints are never flattering. You should avoid placing them on the front or back of a shirt.
Your design should be placed in the same place on every item you sell. This means your logo must be printed on the front of your t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, hats, etc.

3. Typography & Fonts

Typography is the visual component of writing. It’s the font used, the size, the spacing, etc. Typography is an art form that involves arranging letters into words and sentences. Typography includes selecting fonts, adjusting spacing, and ensuring the lines are spaced correctly. Typography is used in many ways, including logos, headlines, advertisements, and more.

Fonts can tell you a lot about the way people perceive your brand. A logo with a serif font conveys an old-fashioned feeling, while sans serif fonts are more modern and sleek.

Batman Forever is a top-rated movie franchise, and many fonts represent this name. Comic Sans was designed for children, but many businesses still use it today. Real talk, you should always be careful when using Comic Sans.

4. Composition

Composition is made up of various elements that are related to each other. For example, there could be a light source, a subject, a background, etc. There are basic composition rules that make up a well-designed composition. These include having a focal point, using contrast, balancing elements, and keeping things simple.

A typical mistake is elements that aren’t placed well. Components could be too spaced out or bunched up. Or an entire design could be off-balanced, drawing the eye to a different spot than intended. Or– and this is very important– the type could be read backward, confusing.I’m glad you enjoyed my post!

You’re right. When you worry about something, you’re more likely to make mistakes. But you’ll also feel better because you’ve taken care of things before they become problems. Keep going! 🙂

5. Image Quality

We’ve received many images that are too low resolution. This means that we need more pixels to reproduce them correctly. You may want to try resizing your photograph before uploading it here.
Art files that aren’t of excellent quality might get rejected. We’ll tell you about this as soon as possible. If your file doesn’t improve, it may become a lower resolution print.

Images should be high quality, preferably 300 dpi or better, and printed full size. When looking for an image online, make sure it’s been uploaded at a resolution of at least 300 dpi, ideally 600 dpi.

Low-resolution photos may have visible artefacts from compression, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the image was taken with a lower quality camera or lens. Some cameras use noise reduction algorithms, while others apply to sharpen filters to increase overall contrast.

Vector graphics are scalable images that can be used for printing and web design. These files are typically PDF, PSD, EPS, or SVG file types.

Photographs are often blurry due to poor camera settings, odd cropping, or other problems. Sometimes, images may include screenshots of photos taken by another device. This can happen when someone sends an email containing a photo as an attachment.

6. Colours

Colors are essential when designing T-shirts. You should choose fewer colors if you want to cut down costs. You can also use less expensive materials (which may be harder to see) if you’re going to make more money.

Screen printing is a fantastic technology used by printers to produce images on paper. In some cases, you can create prints using halftone techniques. Ask your sales representative if your design qualifies for this process.

Colors affect your mood. It would be best to think about the colors when you design your website or logo. Colors cause different emotions in people. Advertisers use this knowledge to make people feel better after seeing their ads.
Full-color prints are more expensive because you’re paying for each color. So if you want to use full-color photos, make sure you know what you’re getting into. Aesthetics are also important when choosing a photo printer.

Clashing colors can create an ugly design. Make sure you use enough colors to make your design attractive.
There should be as few colors as possible. But if there are too many, people won’t wear them because they’ll think they’re ugly.

That’s all for now. Hopefully, you’ve got a better idea of the most common mistakes to avoid, so you’re ready to create an awesome shirt! These T-Shirt design tips will help you in your fashion journey.
Happy designing!
